The two pie charts present the distribution by protocol used by Blockchain & Distributed Ledger implementation projects developed and surveyed by the Observatory worldwide in the period 2016-2020. The first graph shows the distribution by Permissioned platform type, and the second graph shows the distribution by Permissionless platform type. Platforms that require registration and identification to access the network and therefore approval from a central authority or the network itself are considered Permissioned. Whereas permissionless are platforms to which anyone can participate and freely perform any type of activity, and in which the public ledger content is public and available to everyone.
