The methodology used in this Report

The Observatory adopted a multi-methodological approach to provide a comprehensive overview of the state of digital identity. Looking at the international context, in 2025, the census of digital identity and digital identity wallet cases was updated, with over 254 active projects. Furthermore, a survey was conducted on a statistically representative sample of the internet population aged between 18 and 75 (by age and geographical area) in five countries: Italy, France, the United Kingdom, Spain, and Germany, involving 5,125 respondents.

Finally, the organization of thematic workshops and the analysis of secondary sources (over 200 academic articles, technical-professional reports, and regulatory sources) supported the research.
