Artificial Intelligence

The Artificial Intelligence Observatory was established in 2017 to respond to the growing interest of public and private companies on the potential offered by new Artificial Intelligence enabling technologies. The goal is to create a Community to compare and investigate AI opportunities, in a context characterized by lack of clarity on state of the art of applications and the adoption by companies, on the enabling benefits and the evolution expected by the market, combining managerial and technologic perspectives by merging the experience of the Management, Economics and Industrial Engineering Department, and the Electronics, Information and Bioengineering Department.

The Artificial Intelligence Observatory is supported by AIxIA, Associazione Italiana per l’Intelligenza Artificiale (Italian Artificial Intelligence Association), Anitec-Assinform, Assintel, FAIR and Lab CINI.

Artificial Intelligence Observatory Research

As part of the Research, the Artificial Intelligence Observatory aims to:

• identify the main directions and expense dynamics of Italian companies, estimating the overall value;
• evaluate the level of maturity of large companies and SMEs in Italy;
• investigate the projects developed by Italian companies, highlighting the spread, singularities, and criticalities for each category of solutions considered;
• identify main current technology trends (such as Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Intelligent Robotic Process Automation, Natural Language Processing or NLP and Generative AI solutions such as Chat GPT and DALL-E platforms);
• follow up on the main techniques necessary to develop application solutions;
• investigate consumers’ points of view about AI enabled solutions and services;
• discuss ethical implications, exploring best practices and critical issues for organizations in adopting Trustworthy AI, including in relation to the implementation of the AI Act;
• gain insight into the impact of Artificial Intelligence on the world of work.
