The Business Travel Observatory stems from the partnership between the Travel Innovation Observatory of Politecnico di Milano and the University of Bologna, that for over twenty years has been examining the dynamics of the Italian business travel market.

The goal is to guide Italian companies in innovating, digitizing, and enhancing the efficiency of business travel and foster communication and cooperation with technology providers.

Over the years Business Travel Observatory activities reached a Community of over 2000 Travel Managers, HR managers, Procurement managers, and CFOs of companies across Italy.

Business Travel Observatory Research

Within the Annual Edition, the Business Travel Observatory conducts the following Research activities:

• quantify the business travel market of Italian companies, with insights on booked services, destinations, travel purposes, booking tools, and with short-term forecast processing;
• analyze the  digitization process and identify emerging trends, with particular reference to booking tools, user experience, sustainability, bleisure, workation, and traveler profiling;
• identify key innovations and trends affecting the corporate events industry (conferences, exhibitions), with particular reference to post-pandemic changes;
• impact analysis (costs and benefits) arising from the introduction of innovations within in the business travel management process of companies operating in Italy.

The Business Travel Observatory research is based on an empirical analysis that involves business travelers and corporate travel managers through surveys, case studies, and interviews. The investigation is thorough due to monitoring the literature as well as main industry news (national and international) enabling to identify the most significant trends.
