Over the past few years, the idea of Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs) has taken the financial and economic world by storm. CBDCs are a form of digital fiat currency that is issued and backed by a central bank and has the potential to become a widely used payment system. To better understand the worldwide scenario the Observatory research team conducted an analysis of the main public initiatives around CBDCs worldwide and defined the main scenarios that could develop from the competition among stablecoins and CBDCs.
