Data Center Observatory: 2023 Research

The Data Center Observatory was established for research related to activities of the Cloud Transformation Observatory with the aim of creating and spreading knowledge on the Italian Data Center supply chain and on the infrastructure existing on the Italian territory, inasmuch as it is a strategic asset for the digitalization of the Country and a key element of international competitiveness.

The Data Center infrastructure aims to be a technological enabler for the delivery of services and solutions supporting digitalization of businesses and of the business models of the country’s digital supply chain. In the past years the market has shown growing interest, resulting in a considerable increase of investments and the opening of new Data Center infrastructure on the Italian territory.

The Data Center Observatory aims to become a precompetitive point of reference on this topic at Italian level, developing interpretation models that can support companies and institutions in making strategic decisions.

Activities planned for 2023 are:

Research focused on mapping the Data Center Infrastructure in Italy seen from different perspectives: Geographic position, operations and physical characteristics, solution offering model and go-to-market, security and operational continuity, orientation to sustainability and existing certifications. Research is developed through direct interviews to players operating in the Italian Data Center supply chain and analysis of secondary sources. Additionally, the digital supply chain and end user businesses’ point of view on this type of offer is also analyzed through identification surveys;
The development of a Report containing main Research results;
Two closed-door meetings with Observatory supporters to set up the research and check progress;
Two follow-up and community networking workshops on board the Observatory and subject relevant institutions with the aim of learning more about:
- Green IT and environmental sustainability
- The impact of Data Centers
Organize a closing event to present main Research results.
