Life Science Innovation
Opportunities and challenges related to key digital innovation trends for Life Science ecosystem players, analyzed based on research data from the Life Science Innovation Observatory of the POLIMI School of Management.
Objectives of the Observatory
In its fourth year of research, the Life Science Innovation Observatory aims to analyze and promote innovation, also based on digital technologies, in clinical research, customer engagement, and the development of new products and services in the Life Science sector.
Life Science Observatory Research
Within the annual edition, the Life Science Innovation Observatory conducts the following research activities:
- analyze the impact of digital technologies (e.g., artificial intelligence, digital twin, etc.) on drug or medical device research and development processes, identifying best practices and analyzing benefits and usage barriers;
- explore possible applications of digital technology in Life Science to improve customer engagement of healthcare professionals, identifying the most innovative enabling technologies (e.g., generative AI);
- investigate the opportunities for the Life Science sector provided by sensors and biosensors, also assisting in the collection of real-world data;
- assess the current status and future perspectives of digital treatments in Italy, analyzing the regulatory framework, possible HTA assessment modes, challenges of integrating them within courses of treatment, and the skills to develop to use them effectively;
- define a new competence model that should be developed by the Medical Departments of pharmaceutical companies, and necessary to grasp and leverage the new digital trends in the Life Science sector, identifying current gaps and the actions to bridge them.
