Carbon Farming 4.0: the Role of Digital Innovation in Carbon Sequestration and Emission Reduction in Agriculture
What you will learn
You will learn how carbon farming is developing globally and within Europe, including projects funded by the EU and private actors, as well as those in voluntary carbon markets. The research will also provide insights into the Italian context.

You will know how to answer these key questions
- What is the current state of carbon farming worldwide?
- What is the role of digital technologies in carbon farming projects?
- Which agri-food supply chains receive the largest amount of funding from the European Union for carbon farming initiatives?
- What is the value of the voluntary carbon market associated with carbon farming projects?
The methodology used in this Report
The main objective of the research is to understand the state of the art of carbon farming in the agri-food sector, in terms of regulatory framework, existing applications and projects, opportunities for the value chain (from farmers to processing companies, up to the extended supply chain including providers of technologies, products, and services), and the role of digital innovations.
The research was therefore based on the use of different methodologies, including mappings (of carbon farming projects involving the agricultural and agri-food sectors and the related carbon offsets issued), a survey addressed to farmers, and analyses of academic and grey literature.
