Smart AgriFood
The Smart AgriFood Observatory of the Politecnico di Milano and the University of Brescia is the focal point in Italy and among the main point of reference in Europe, to increase understanding of digital innovations, such as process, infrastructural, operational, hardware and software, on the agricultural and agri-food supply chain.
Objectives of the Observatory
The Smart AgriFood Observatory of the Politecnico di Milano and the University of Brescia is the focal point in Italy and among the main point of reference in Europe, to increase understanding of digital innovations, such as process, infrastructural, operational, hardware and software, on the agricultural and agri-food supply chain.
The aim of the Observatory is to spread information and knowledge on digital innovation throughout the Smart Agrifood supply chain. To accomplish this, the Observatory conducts applied research and conveys the results to decision makers, devising occasions for all the involved stakeholders to meet and discuss in order to promote dialogue and innovation and producing culture.
Smart Agrifood Observatory Research
- Agriculture 4.0: supply analysis and market quantification, demand analysis, focus on data and platforms for agriculture;
- Food Industry 4.0: state of adoption analysis of 4.0 solutions in the Italian agrifood industry;
- food traceability: analysis and quantification of the benefits provided by innovative solutions for traceability and application cases, digital solutions for food traceability mapping, analysis of Blockchain application cases in Italy and worldwide;
- digital technology for carbon farming and agrivoltaic: analysis of carbon farming and agrisolar production solutions and new business models, with particular focus on the impact of digital solutions;
- startup Smart Agrifood: map international Smart Agrifood startups focused on digital innovation in the agri-food supply chain, analysis of business models, identification of emerging trends.
Activities
The activities characterizing the edition of Smart AgriFood Observatory Research are:
- a Research plan arranged with the Partners of the Observatory aimed at identifying the main innovation opportunities and the corresponding effects on the agricultural and food supply chain through inquiries carried out with relevant firms and through the most appropriate methodologies (cost-benefit analyses, quantitative analyses, case studies, …).
- several meeting and discussing occasions:
- a workshop to set up the Research reserved to the Observatory’s community (Partners and Sponsors and food and agricultural firms belonging to the whole supply chain);
- four intermediate workshops to discuss and share with the Observatory’s community the preliminary Research outcomes in order to gather relevant insights;
- an interactive observatory, dedicated to partners and Advisory Board, to share experiences and debate on current events;
- several meeting occasions to stimulate the dialogue among all the members of the Observatory’s community on specific topics;
- a final conference open to the public to present the results of the Research, enriched by speeches given by the Observatory’s Partners and other relevant actors;
- speeches in events organized by Farmers’ associations and in the main industry fairs.
- Publication of:
- a report that contains the main results of the Research which is distributed when the final conference takes place;
- several in-depth analyses on specific themes distributed as reports, static and dynamic graphs or videos;
- a weekly newsletter comprising key messages stemming from news and research analyzed by the Smart AgriFood Observatory;
- articles and comments on many media.
