The Supply Chain Planning Observatory is founded in 2023 with the goal of developing analyses and research aiding Italian organizations to understand the challenges and opportunities of advanced Supply Chain planning.

The Supply Chain Planning Observatory is founded in 2023 with the goal of developing analyses and research aiding Italian organizations to understand the challenges and opportunities of advanced Supply Chain planning.
Supply Chain Planning Observatory Research
As part of the annual edition, the Supply Chain Planning Observatory conducts a broad range of Research activities regarding:
- Strategic Network design: earth analytics, layout & flow optimization, cost simulation and optimization;
- Demand planning: demand segmentation, demand forecasting, price optimization, collaborative forecasting;
- Inventory planning: categorization, stock positioning, model selection and optimization, shortage & priority management;
- Sales & Operations planning / Integrated Business Planning: capacity optimization, service level simulation, collaboration and info sharing;
- Transportation planning: track and trace, route and task optimization, CO2 modelling and optimization, info sharing;
- Production planning: aggregate plan optimization, DD-MRP, production scheduling and control;
- Brand protection: track and trace, authentication platforms
- SC Performance measurement: dashboard and intelligence, new sustainability challenges.
Activities
Supply Chain Planning Observatory activities
The events planned for the annual edition of the Supply Chain Planning Observatory are:
- a kickoff workshop with the presentation of the Supply Chain Planning Observatory Community;
- two technical seminar type workshops illustrating the status quo of the main technical and technological issues; the sessions are chaired by specialists from the academic world;
- three Research workshops, consisting of a discussion, the involvement of external guests for experience sharing, in addition to an interactive activity to stimulate a debate based on interpretive models developed by the Observatory;
- a Public Conference to present Research activity results with round tables and presentations by main Supply Chain players.
