Intelligent Business Process Automation

The Intelligent Business Process Automation Observatory stems for the experience of the Artificial Intelligence Observatory. It aims to highlight the strategic value that Artificial Intelligence technologies provide to business process automation, emphasizing the potential benefits regarding competitiveness, profitability, promptness, and increased effectiveness in decision-making contexts. In particular the project aims to establish a permanent point of reference for decision makers to leverage the innovation potential where Robotic Process Automation and Artificial Intelligence solutions converge.

Objectives of the Observatory

Intelligent Business Process Automation Observatory Research

As part of the Research, the Observatory aims to aims to photograph and understand the status quo of Intelligent Business Process Automation in Italy. In particular, it aims to:

develop and validate a framework detailing the contours of Intelligent Business Process Automation and related concepts such as Robotic Process Automation (RPA), Process Mining, Business Process Management, and Digital Process Automation;
survey and conduct a critical and noncompetitive analysis of the technology solution offering, identifying the technological evolution trends in place;
appraise the Intelligent Business Process Automation market in Italy;
evaluate the spread of activities of large Italian business organizations in this field and identify the resulting benefits;
create awareness on the variables that negatively or positively influence the adoption (e.g. process discovery methodologies, design development methodologies, organizational choices, dedicated skills management, re-usability of developed services).

Activities

Research activity

Activities planned by the Observatory as part of the annual Intelligent Business Process Automation Research include:

a survey addressed to large Italian companies targeted to IT managers and IT automation managers to monitor the spread of such technologies at national level;
an analysis of solutions provided in this sector and the integration with other Digital Technologies;
detailed demand and supply company case studies to identify methodologies and best practices for the adoption of intelligent digital automation solutions and establish dedicated competence centers within companies.

Events

Events organized for the edition of the Observatory are:

kick off: online event open to the public, aimed at presenting the activity and Research lines with stakeholder companies;
Community Presentation meeting: online event reserved for activity supporters, aimed at fostering community awareness and discussing Research activities in a timely manner;
three workshops: in-person events reserved for activity supporters, dedicated to exploring some of the Research topics in greater depth, with factual input from supporters and possible external testimonials;
preview of Research Results: online event reserved for activity supporters, aimed at presenting and discussing preliminary Research results;
final event: online meeting open to the public, aimed at presenting and discussing main Research results with representatives from institutions, international practitioners, and supporters of the venture.

Content

The Observatory will generate the following content:

a digital report including the main results from the Observatory’s Research activities, released at the closing conference event;
a survey of the solution offering based on the analysis of the leading market players (content reserved for supporters);
in-depth reports on the status quo of technology and on application mapping of Intelligent Process Automation at the enterprise level (content dedicated to supporters).
